Elevation: 13,281’

Roundtrip: 11.2 Miles

Elevation Gain: 4,900’

From the Longs Peak Trailhead, the trail steadily climbs several switchbacks to treeline.  Sweet smells of conifer trees make this section a perfect way to start (and finish). Why do you think they call the first campsites along the trail Goblin Forest?

Anticipate wind and sun exposure above treeline; sunscreen, sunglasses, and a large-brimmed hat are recommended.

As you traverse Mills Moraine to the Y split, marvel in expansive views of Longs Peak, Mt. Meeker, and Mt. Lady Washington. Turn right to reach the boulder field and continue up Mount Lady Washington’s north side, or turn left to Chasm Lake.

Follow the rocky trail until you are just west of Battle Mountain. Then start up the steep bouldery slope to the south, and watch your step over seesawing boulders! Take your time viewing the Mummy Range and other Continental Divide Peaks; when the skies are clear you can see for miles.

The Mount Lady Washington summit provides amazing views of the Diamond of Longs Peak. Snack, hydrate, and take in the enveloping, panoramic beauty… if you can manage to take your eyes off the Diamond! Before descending with caution, take a moment to celebrate you, and the significance of all you just accomplished.

Happy Trails!

Quick Tip: Keep alert for Ptarmigan and Pica you never know when you might see or hear them.

Trail Tip: Anytime you decide to travel above treeline be prepared for inclement weather and bring lots of water and snacks.

Fun Fact: The geologic history of the mountain is one of glaciation and lots of weathering.  It has been theorized that Mt. Meeker, Longs Peak, and Mountain Lady Washington were all one mountain.
