Lake Haiyaha via the Bear Lake Trailhead

Elevation: 9,475et

Distance: Approximately 3.9 miles Roundtrip

It was an amazing weekend up here in Rocky Mountain National Park!  The temperatures were warm and wind tolerable making it a perfect day for this adventure.   So I decided to load the car and head to the Bear Lake Trailhead with Jamie and Anil.

We followed the trail from Bear Lake to Nymph Lake, onto Dream Lake, and then up to Lake Haiyaha.  Multiple cut outs through the trees allow you to catch a glimpse Longs Peak and Glacier Gorge area along your travels.

The trip out to Lake Haiyaha felt quick mainly due to the trail being well packed down.  We appreciated all of the amazing views of the Hallet Peak and Otis Peak in the Chaos Canyon amongst all the clouds and blue skies.  Ice was literally growing over the top of some of the large boulders in the lake.  A really unique site.

We brewed up a delicious cup of tea with our Jetboil and relished in where we were.  Before we left we spent a few minutes designing the perfect snow angels.

This is a wonderful trip that allows you to hike past great lakes with spectacular views.  It is fun to challenge your loved ones and friends with a destination like this one.

We highly recommend putting on some snowshoes and exploring RMNP.

Happy trails!! Adam A.

Tip: Watch your step when you walk backward with snowshoes.
