Round Trip Length: 7 Miles
Elevation Gain: Approximately 2,400 Feet
Summit Date: 26 February 2018

Thick, coniferous forest; remnants of a mighty flood; high winds. Twin Sisters is an essential addition to your winter adventure list. About one mile in, the forest gives way to a landslide which, during the flood of September 2013, swept away a large section of trail. National Park staff redesigned this area In the summer of 2017.

Stop at the tree line and layer up; this is the perfect junction to prepare for the winter winds ahead. Immediately out of treeline, take in views of the Estes Valley to the north and Front Range Plains to the east before reaching a saddle that connects the Eastern Summit (11,428’) and Western Summit (11,413’). Notice a hut and radio communication tower at the base of the western summit before you scramble up to the rocky Eastern Summit. Finish with unique perspectives of Longs Peak, Mount Meeker, and many other peaks of the Continental Divide!

Tips:
Pack your headlamp and set out for a sunrise or sunset adventure.
Use this peak as a training ground; become fluent in its elevation gain and exposure before you tackle higher peaks.
Happy Trails!
